OpenAI Launches Sora Turbo on Day 3 of “12 Days with OpenAI” By Elets News Network - 10 December 2024

OPEN AI

OpenAI has announced the launch of Sora Turbo, a video generation model, now available on Sora.com, as a part of its “12 Days of OpenAI” year-end festival. This follows the release of Sora earlier this year, which creates realistic videos from text and focuses on simulating reality. It represents progress towards AI models that can interact with the physical world.

Key Features and Improvements

Sora Turbo is available as a standalone product for ChatGPT Plus and Pro users. It is faster than the version previewed in February. Users can generate videos up to 1080p resolution, 20 seconds long, in widescreen, vertical, or square aspect ratios. Users can upload assets to extend, remix, or blend videos or generate content directly from text.

OpenAI has introduced a new interface for Sora. It includes a storyboard tool for frame-specific inputs and Featured and Recent feeds showcasing community creations.

Subscription Plans

Sora is included in the Plus account at no additional cost. Users can generate up to 50 videos in 480p or fewer videos in 720p each month. The Pro plan offers 10 times more usage, higher resolutions, and longer durations. OpenAI plans to offer tailored pricing for various user types next year.

Deployment and Safeguards

The current version of Sora has limitations, including generating unrealistic physics and difficulties with complex or long-duration actions. Sora Turbo is faster than earlier previews, but OpenAI continues to work on affordability.

All videos generated by Sora include C2PA metadata to verify their origin. OpenAI has implemented safeguards such as default visible watermarks and an internal search tool to identify Sora-generated content. Harmful uses, including child sexual abuse materials and sexual deepfakes, are blocked. At launch, uploads of people are restricted, with plans to extend this feature as deepfake mitigations improve.

OpenAI is introducing this technology early to allow exploration of its potential and to co-develop norms and safeguards for responsible use.
