OpenAI announced strategic partnerships with six leading Indian universities to embed artificial intelligence across management, healthcare, engineering, creative arts, and multidisciplinary education, aiming to build AI-ready talent for the technology-driven economy.

The inaugural cohort includes IIT Delhi, IIM Ahmedabad, AIIMS New Delhi, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, and Pearl Academy. The initiative will reach over 100,000 students, faculty, and staff within the next year, focusing on institutional transformation rather than basic tool access.

At IIT Delhi, the collaboration centers on engineering innovation and advanced research, including potential campus-wide ChatGPT Edu deployment, faculty briefings, and integration of generative AI into applied problem-solving. OpenAI-supported hackathons and industry days will connect student innovation with India’s manufacturing and deep-tech ecosystem.

IIM Ahmedabad will embed AI fluency across strategy, operations, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, and public policy curricula. Director Bharat Bhasker emphasized building foundations for AI opportunities across industries and economies.

AIIMS New Delhi will explore applied AI in medical education and clinical training, potentially establishing an AI in Medical Education Hub focused on safety benchmarks and ethical deployment. Director M. Srinivas described AI as enabling academic excellence and clinical precision.

Additionally, IIM Ahmedabad and Manipal will deploy OpenAI certifications to formalize AI capability pathways. Beyond campuses, OpenAI is partnering with PhysicsWallah, upGrad, and HCL GUVI to launch structured AI courses targeting students and early-career professionals, ensuring AI fluency scales across India’s broader learner base.
