Microsoft has confirmed a new AI-powered feature for Windows Search on Windows 11 to simplify file and content discovery. This update is part of its push for users to move from Windows 10 to Windows 11. The feature will be available only on Copilot+ PCs with Qualcomm, Intel, or AMD processors with neural processing units (NPUs).
The feature will first roll out to the Windows Insider community, and later, it will become available to all users.

Yusuf Mehdi, the Executive Vice President and Consumer Chief Marketing Officer at Microsoft, said the AI-driven search reduces the need to remember file names or specific details. Instead, the tool understands user intent and retrieves the desired document, image, or email efficiently. Mehdi stated that this capability simplifies finding almost anything on the system or linked cloud storage.

The feature shares similarities with Google’s “Search with Google Lens,” which allows searches using images. Microsoft’s AI-powered search takes a comparable approach, enabling users to locate images, documents, videos, and other files through text-based queries.

This new capability is integrated directly into the Windows Search interface, blending into the operating system’s user experience. The AI-driven search scans local storage and OneDrive for the required content, making it a useful tool for users managing a mix of local and cloud-based files.
The company has not announced a specific timeline for the public release but is focusing on gathering feedback from Windows Insiders to refine the experience.
