Karnataka AI Labs

The Karnataka government has approved the establishment of 50 Artificial Intelligence (AI) laboratories in government colleges across the state to equip students with future-ready technology skills and improve employability. The initiative is aimed at expanding access to emerging technologies, particularly for students in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities and towns.

The AI labs will provide hands-on training in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, and related technologies through practical learning and skill development programmes. The initiative is expected to help students build industry-relevant capabilities and prepare for careers in the digital economy.

The project will be implemented under the Centre’s IndiaAI Mission and will initially include 23 institutions in the first phase of AI Data Laboratories. The state government said the initiative is designed to strengthen technological education while promoting innovation and digital readiness among students in public higher education institutions.

The move aligns with Karnataka’s broader strategy to position itself as a hub for AI research, talent development, and digital transformation. The state has recently accelerated multiple AI initiatives, including AI-ready infrastructure and collaborations focused on building a skilled workforce.

By bringing advanced technology training to government colleges, Karnataka aims to bridge skill gaps, improve career opportunities for students, and create a stronger pipeline of AI talent for India’s growing digital economy.
