Gupshup debuts India’s First Conversational Buyer App on ONDC Network By Elets News Network - 27 June 2024

Gupshup, ONDC Network

Gupshup has launched India’s first Conversational Buyer App on the ONDC network. The app allows users to discover, browse, and purchase products through a WhatsApp-based conversational interface. This eliminates the need for additional mobile apps.

The conversation cloud company plans to extend this capability to enterprise customers to integrate conversational commerce into their chatbots.

Highlighting the widespread use of WhatsApp across diverse demographics, CEO Beerud Sheth talked about the app’s potential. He said, “Gupshup’s Buyer App on ONDC brings the vast commerce network to users nationwide, usable in any language, quickly and easily. This will truly transform digital commerce on a population scale in India.”

With over 650 million Indians active on social media and messaging platforms, the app addresses the 65% of users who find app downloads frustrating and the 40% who abandon purchases when required to install new apps.

The app is currently in beta and offers limited food and beverage ordering capabilities on WhatsApp. It plans to support additional conversational channels like Google RCS and Voice.

Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), launched in 2023, is an initiative by the Indian government’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade to create an inclusive e-commerce ecosystem. Since its inception, ONDC has processed over 49.79 million transactions, especially in the transportation services and food and beverage sectors.
