Google has unveiled a major update to Google Slides, integrating its latest AI-powered text-to-image model, Imagen 3, along with several new features designed to enhance creativity and productivity across its Workspace suite.
According to Dennis Hu, Group Product Manager at Google Slides, the new Imagen 3 model enables users to generate highly detailed and realistic images, including photorealistic people and text-based visuals, across Slides, Gmail, Docs, and Sheets. This update positions Google as a strong contender in the AI image-generation space, especially as OpenAI’s GPT-4o continues to make waves with its native image capabilities.

In addition to AI image generation, Google Slides now offers image editing tools, such as background removal, with future updates expected to bring background extension features. Users can also generate images in various aspect ratios (19:6, 16:9, and 1:1) using the new “Create an Image” option, allowing for more customization.

Another major addition is the introduction of “Building Blocks”, a feature that allows users to insert editable, pre-formatted content structures—including quotes, key points, statistics, and agendas—directly into their slides. Similar to Building Blocks in Docs, these elements can be ungrouped and fully customized once added.

Google has also refreshed its template library, introducing new options for annual planning, client proposals, and workshop facilitation to streamline presentation creation.
Further expanding multimedia capabilities, Google Slides now supports:
- Embedded live video feeds in presentations
- Self-recorded presentations that can be shared later
- A wider selection of stock images, GIFs, and web media
These updates reinforce Google Slides as a powerful tool for professionals, educators, and creatives looking to enhance collaboration and storytelling using AI-driven innovations.
