In a move that could reshape the future of artificial intelligence hardware, Google is reportedly in discussions with Marvell Technology to develop next-generation AI chips designed to run models more efficiently.
According to reports, the collaboration may focus on building two advanced chips. One is expected to be a memory processing unit that will work alongside Google’s existing Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), while the other could be a new TPU specifically designed to handle AI workloads more effectively.

Google has been steadily investing in its custom chip ecosystem, aiming to reduce reliance on external hardware and offer a strong alternative to GPUs that currently dominate the AI market. The company’s TPUs have already become a key part of its cloud business, helping power AI services and contributing to revenue growth.
By working with Marvell, a well-known player in the semiconductor space, Google appears to be strengthening its strategy to build more efficient and specialised chips for AI applications. These efforts are particularly important as demand for AI computing continues to rise globally.
Reports suggest that the companies are aiming to finalise the design of the memory processing unit as early as next year, after which it may move into test production.
While both companies have not officially commented on the discussions, the potential partnership highlights a broader industry trend—tech giants are increasingly designing their own chips to gain better performance, reduce costs, and stay competitive in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

If the collaboration moves forward, it could further intensify competition in the AI hardware space, where companies are racing to develop faster, more efficient, and scalable solutions for the next generation of technology.
