Expedia Group has named Ramana Thumu as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Thumu will lead Expedia’s technology division, overseeing its engineering, data, artificial intelligence, cloud platforms, and security. He will also capitalise on the company’s tech and platform investments from recent years.

Thumu has over 20 years of experience in this field. Before joining Expedia, he was the Chief Product and Technology Officer at Fanatics Commerce. He created Fanatics’ Cloud Commerce Platform—a state-of-the-art e-commerce solution that brought personalised, real-time shopping experiences to customers around the world.

Before his tenure at Fanatics, he spent a decade at eBay, developing the company’s data, advertising, fraud, and personalisation platforms, which helped drive its global expansion.

Expedia’s Chief Executive Officer, Ariane Gorin, said, “I am thrilled to welcome Ramana to our leadership team as our new Chief Technology Officer. Thumu expressed his excitement to join Expedia Group as CTO, and to bring his passion for technology, data, and travel together. “Travel has this incredible power to create life-changing experiences, and I’m excited to lead the tech team in pushing the limits of what’s possible for the future of travel innovation.”

He will join Expedia in December and shift base to San Francisco. He will also report directly to Ariane Gorin, CEO of Expedia, and take his place on the Travel Leadership Team.
