Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, has received a substantial $300 million investment from Telegram. The deal will see xAI’s AI chatbot, Grok, integrated across Telegram’s billion-plus user ecosystem over a one-year exclusive partnership.
Telegram founder Pavel Durov shared the development on X (formerly Twitter), confirming that the collaboration includes both cash and equity investment. Under the terms, Telegram will also receive 50% of the revenue generated from xAI subscriptions purchased through the app.
This partnership could prove vital for xAI, as the AI sector faces mounting challenges in accessing high-quality training data. With traditional open-source repositories drying up, leading tech firms like Meta are exploring user interactions as new data sources to refine their AI models. The integration with Telegram could provide xAI with an invaluable stream of user engagement, although it remains unclear whether user data from Telegram will be used for training Grok in the same way Musk’s other platform, X, currently does.

The latest iteration of the chatbot, Grok 3, launched in February 2025 and is being hailed as the smallest yet most powerful AI system of its kind. Trained on 100,000 NVIDIA GPUs, Grok 3 offers nearly ten times the computing power of its previous version.
In parallel, xAI is in advanced discussions to raise an additional $10 billion in funding, with top-tier investors like Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and Valor Equity Partners backing the venture. This round is expected to boost xAI’s valuation to $75 billion, positioning it as a dominant player in the evolving AI landscape.
