Bharti Airtel has appointed Soumen Ray as its Group Chief Financial Officer, effective January 1, 2026, as part of a comprehensive leadership restructuring at India’s second-largest telecommunications operator.

Ray, who has served as CFO of Bharti Airtel India for the past four years, will now oversee the group’s global financial strategy, capital allocation, and investor relations across domestic and international operations. His elevation comes in recognition of his instrumental role in strengthening the company’s financial performance and supporting business transformation initiatives.

Ray brings extensive cross-sector experience, having held senior financial leadership positions at prominent organizations including Bajaj Auto, Viacom18, Hindustan Unilever, ITC Limited, and Eveready Industries India. His expertise spans finance, strategy, and transformation across consumer goods, media, manufacturing, and telecommunications sectors.

Succeeding Ray as CFO of Bharti Airtel India will be Akhil Garg, currently the company’s Financial Controller. Garg has been with Airtel for nearly 12 years, holding multiple roles and leading several critical business initiatives, including the successful Bharti Hexacom IPO. In his new role, Garg will report to both incoming MD & CEO Shashwat Sharma and Group CFO Soumen Ray.

The financial leadership appointments are part of Airtel’s broader succession plan, which also includes Shashwat Sharma taking over as Managing Director and CEO, and Gopal Vittal transitioning to Executive Vice Chairman. These changes reflect Airtel’s commitment to seamless leadership transition while maintaining operational continuity.
