Apple is gearing up to empower third-party developers with access to its proprietary AI models through a new software development kit (SDK), according to an official source. The Cupertino-based tech giant plans to unveil this toolkit at its upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9. The move will enable developers to integrate Apple’s AI technologies—branded under “Apple Intelligence”—into their own apps across Apple’s ecosystem.
This strategic shift reflects Apple’s renewed focus on artificial intelligence, an area where the company has been perceived as lagging behind rivals such as Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI. With this initiative, Apple aims to expand its AI footprint and foster innovation by making its AI infrastructure more accessible to developers.
In addition to the SDK, Apple is said to be working on several AI-driven features for its native apps. These include a smarter battery management system and an enhanced health application powered by AI. The broader vision encompasses deeper AI integration across future Apple products.
As per sources, Apple is investing in advanced chip development to power its upcoming product lineup, including AI servers, smarter Mac systems, and wearable AR glasses. These AI chips, tailored for processing tasks related to Apple Intelligence, are expected to enter mass production either by late 2026 or 2027.

The company is also exploring strategic AI partnerships. Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior VP of Services, recently hinted at AI search integration within Safari, potentially powered by partners like Google, OpenAI, or Perplexity. Google CEO Sundar Pichai has confirmed plans to collaborate with Apple to incorporate Gemini—Google’s AI model—into the Apple Intelligence ecosystem.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has reportedly discussed expanding third-party AI model integration into its AI framework later this year, signalling a more open and collaborative approach going forward.
However, not all developments have gone smoothly. The company’s ambitious overhaul of Siri, its virtual assistant, has encountered significant technical challenges. As a result, the major AI-driven update to Siri has been postponed until 2026.
With WWDC 2025 just around the corner, all eyes will be on Apple to see how it plans to reshape its AI narrative and reclaim a leading role in the rapidly evolving AI space.
