Apple invests $500 billion to power AI and US manufacturing By Elets News Network - 25 February 2025

Apple investment

Apple has announced a massive $500 billion investment in the United States over the next four years, reinforcing its commitment to artificial intelligence (AI), silicon engineering, manufacturing, and workforce development. This initiative will span multiple states, including Michigan, Texas, California, Arizona, Nevada, Iowa, Oregon, North Carolina, and Washington.

A key highlight of Apple’s investment is the construction of a new 2,50,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Houston, set to open in 2026. The facility will focus on producing servers for Apple Intelligence and is expected to create thousands of jobs. Additionally, Apple is expanding its data centre infrastructure in North Carolina, Iowa, Oregon, Arizona, and Nevada to strengthen its AI capabilities.

Over the next four years, Apple aims to hire approximately 20,000 employees across R&D, software development, AI, machine learning, and silicon engineering. The company is doubling its US Advanced Manufacturing Fund from $5 billion to $10 billion to drive innovation and high-skilled manufacturing jobs.

Apple has also pledged billions toward advanced silicon production at TSMC’s Fab 21 facility in Arizona, which began mass-producing Apple chips last month and currently employs over 2,000 workers. The company collaborates with key US firms, including Broadcom, Texas Instruments, Skyworks, and Qorvo, to enhance domestic semiconductor production.

Apple plans to further expand its US-based R&D spending, which has nearly doubled over the past five years. The company recently launched the iPhone 16e, featuring the A18 chip and Apple C1, its first in-house cellular modem.

To support workforce education, Apple is launching the Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit. In collaboration with Michigan State University and industry experts, the academy will offer free training in project management and manufacturing process optimization for small- and medium-sized businesses.

Apple continues its commitment to education through grants to organizations like 4-H, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and FIRST. Additionally, its New Silicon Initiative (NSI), designed to prepare students for careers in chip design, will expand in partnership with UCLA’s Center for Education of Microchip Designers.

By making this landmark investment, Apple aims to drive innovation, strengthen US manufacturing, and create new opportunities in AI and semiconductor technologies.
