TCS restructures AI.Cloud Division By Kaanchi Chawla - 27 May 2025

Tata Consultancy Services

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s top IT services firm by market value, has reorganised its AI.Cloud division into two independent business units, aiming to better capture the rapidly growing opportunities in artificial intelligence and cloud technologies. This strategic move is supported by the appointment of dedicated leaders to each unit, underscoring TCS’s commitment to deepening focus and accelerating agility in these transformative areas.

The restructuring, confirmed by senior TCS executives and reported by PTI, is a response to the surging global demand for generative AI (GenAI) and cloud-based solutions. The shift allows TCS to deliver more tailored and specialised offerings to enterprise clients navigating digital transformation.

Initially launched in August 2023, the AI.Cloud division was created to integrate generative AI with cloud platforms to drive enhanced business value. However, the company has witnessed a marked increase in activity and complexity in this domain over the past year, prompting the strategic realignment.

Siva Ganesan, now leading the AI.Cloud division, highlighted the growing ubiquity of AI, noting that it is becoming a central theme across industries. “AI is showing up in every conversation today, and this momentum will only accelerate,” he stated. Under his leadership, the unit is set to act as a hub for all AI-related initiatives within TCS.

With the bifurcation, the cloud business will now operate independently under the leadership of Krishna Mohan, who formerly served as deputy head of AI.Cloud. In addition, Ashok Krish has been named Global Head of AI, while Satish Byravan will take charge as Global Head of Data. These key appointments are designed to drive TCS’s AI-first strategy across various service lines and global markets.

Company insiders revealed that the decision to establish distinct units stems from the immense potential both AI and cloud hold as standalone verticals. The goal is to sharpen execution, improve client alignment, and bolster innovation in an increasingly digital ecosystem.

“The energy and scale of work in AI and data have multiplied significantly in the past year,” said a senior executive. Although specific revenue figures for AI-related services remain undisclosed, internal forecasts indicate growing enterprise demand for large-scale AI deployments.

A major component of the revamped AI unit is its integration with data services, enabling TCS to offer comprehensive solutions, from modernising data infrastructure to deploying AI capabilities. This full-stack approach is particularly valuable as many clients are still preparing their data systems for AI adoption.

To support this vision, TCS is enhancing its workforce capabilities through a dual strategy: recruiting top AI talent externally and reskilling its internal teams via updated training programmes. This talent-focused initiative is central to TCS’s ambition to lead in the evolving AI and cloud services landscape.

As AI and cloud technologies continue to reshape global IT and enterprise solutions, TCS is positioning itself as a frontrunner in driving this transformation. The creation of focused business units is expected to foster deeper client engagement, stimulate innovation, and open new avenues across sectors like healthcare, banking and finance, retail, and manufacturing.
