Anthropic rolls out ‘Claude for Education’ By Elets News Network - 04 April 2025

Anthropic

AI startup Anthropic has rolled out Claude for Education, a specialised edition of its advanced AI tool designed to cater to the unique needs of higher education institutions. The initiative aims to integrate AI meaningfully across teaching, learning, and campus operations, while promoting ethical and effective use of the technology in shaping tomorrow’s society.

At the heart of Claude for Education is Learning Mode, which uses Socratic-style questioning to promote critical thinking and deeper understanding among students. From drafting essays and solving complex calculus equations to receiving feedback on thesis drafts, students are expected to benefit significantly from this tool. Faculty members, on the other hand, can streamline tasks like designing rubrics, generating course content, and giving personalized feedback. Administrative staff can leverage Claude to automate routine processes, interpret institutional trends, and break down complex policies for easier comprehension.

Several prominent institutions have already adopted Claude. Northeastern University is deploying it across 13 campuses, reaching 50,000 students and staff as part of its Northeastern 2025 academic vision. The London School of Economics (LSE) is focusing on cultivating responsible AI practices by offering Claude to its entire student population. Meanwhile, Champlain College is embedding the tool into all academic programs to foster AI fluency across disciplines and prepare students for an AI-integrated workforce.

To ensure robust and secure implementation, Anthropic has partnered with Internet2 for secure access and with Instructure to integrate Claude into the popular Canvas learning management system.

According to TechCrunch, this educational expansion could be a significant revenue driver for Anthropic, which is currently generating $115 million in monthly revenue and aims to double that figure in 2025. The move also positions Anthropic in direct competition with OpenAI, which launched ChatGPT Edu in May 2024 and is collaborating with top research institutions globally to advance AI in education and academia.

Earlier this year, Anthropic closed a $3.5 billion Series E funding round, boosting its post-money valuation to $61.5 billion. The funding will support the advancement of next-gen AI systems, ramp up compute infrastructure, expand global operations, and deepen research into AI alignment and interpretability.

As Claude for Education gains traction, Anthropic’s strategic focus on education could reshape how institutions interact with AI—turning it from a tool of convenience into a core pillar of modern academia.
