Google is currently going through a major reshuffle with the appointment of Prabhakar Raghavan as the Chief Technologist. Raghavan’s journey at Google has spanned over a dozen years. Before this shuffle, he was responsible for Google’s Search and Ads and helped launch Smart Reply and Smart Compose to lead Google’s efforts to improve products using AI.
Raghavan’s initiatives have taken Gmail and Drive past 1 billion users, Google’s CEO, Sundar Pichai wrote in a blog. As Chief Technologist, he’ll be working hand-in-hand with Pichai and other top executives to maintain Google’s position as a technology leader.

Succeeding Raghavan is Nick Fox, another Google stalwart, who will lead Google’s Knowledge and Information division, which includes Ads, Commerce, Geo, and Search products. Fox is well known for his contribution to the development of Google Fi and RCS messaging.

Confirming these changes, Pichai wrote in a blog: “Prabhakar has decided it’s time to make a big leap in his career. After 12 years leading teams across Google, he’ll return to his computer science roots and take on the role of Chief Technologist at Google. Nick Fox, a longtime Googler and member of Prabhakar’s leadership team, will be stepping up to lead K&I.”
Apart from personnel changes, Google is also streamlining AI research and product development by absorbing the Gemini application into Google DeepMind, with Sissie Hsiao taking the lead. The Google Assistant team is also shifting to the Platforms & Devices division to bring everything AI-powered and home-related under one roof, and to make sure that Google’s smart home ecosystem remains both innovative and well-coordinated.
