Cloudera announced that Cloudera Observability is now generally available to all Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) customers in public or private cloud environments. The solution adds new capabilities to the CDP-implemented open data lakehouse by providing actionable insights for data, applications, and infrastructure components to optimize costs, automatically resolve issues, and improve performance. Financial governance and FinOps enable CDP cost management to avoid budget overruns and capacity projections for planning purposes.
“Getting a global view of spending on infrastructure and services is one of the biggest challenges for companies today when managing workloads operating in the cloud,” said Rob Bearden, CEO of Cloudera. “With Cloudera Observability, customers gain unprecedented visibility into workload and resource utilization, allowing them to better control and automatically manage budget overruns, as well as improve performance.”

“In today’s hybrid and multi-cloud environments, where enterprise data is spread across multiple departments and cost centres, managing cloud consumption and troubleshooting issues across multiple infrastructures becomes increasingly difficult.” To meet this challenge, the rapidly evolving Indian tech industry is increasing its use of Observability,” said Piyush Agarwal, SE Leader, Cloudera. We are excited to announce that Cloudera Observability is now generally available for our customers who use Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) on public and private clouds. With its robust capabilities derived from Cloudera’s 15 years of experience in product engineering and professional services, this observability solution, enables users to monitor, understand, and optimize their CDP deployments with unparalleled ease and confidence.”

The new de facto standard is hybrid and multi-cloud environments. With enterprise data stored both on-premises and potentially across multiple public clouds, tracking and managing cloud consumption across various departments and cost centres, keeping the platform stable and controlled, and troubleshooting issues across these different infrastructures becomes difficult.
These issues are addressed by Cloudera Observability. Cloudera Observability, which builds on the company’s experience with hybrid data solutions, enables customers to monitor, understand, and optimize their CDP deployments. Customers also benefit from customizable automatic actions and pre-built actions to raise alerts, avoid issues before they occur, and optimize workloads.
“Many businesses struggle with cloud costs and gaining continuous value from cloud investments,” Nitish Mittal, Partner at Everest Group, added. “Cloudera’s metadata approach provides CDP users with a way to manage their cloud costs, including identifying rogue users, coordinating workloads for optimal cost, and flagging potential resource overruns.” This will become increasingly important for enterprises looking to effectively manage their data on cloud estates.”
Cloudera Observability assisted an existing customer in identifying a rogue user who began sending millions of unnecessary queries, severely affecting performance for critical workloads. Cloudera’s support team had all the insights into the customer environment necessary to identify the root cause of the issue without having to go back and forth several times to gather information on the case. As a result, the initial response to the customer identified the underlying cause and provided a high level of resolution. Within minutes, Cloudera Observability had reached insights. Expedited support eliminates multiple interactions, allowing for faster issue resolution and lower operational overhead.
Cloudera Observability is included at no additional cost with applicable CDP subscriptions and aids in the optimization of the most commonly used data engines, such as Hive, Impala, and Spark, for data engineering workloads. Cloudera Observability Premium enhances the product with high-value features such as custom auto-actions, deeper insights, and richer automated troubleshooting. Over time, support for new data engines and other platform components will be added.
Cloudera Observability is compatible with Apache Iceberg, a key component of Cloudera’s open data lakehouse delivered via CDP. It is a high-performance open table format for large analytic tables that improves big data reliability while allowing multiple computing engines to work concurrently.
