R S Sodhi, a dairy industry veteran and former MD of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), has joined Reliance Retail Ventures (RRVL), the retail arm of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries (RIL).
Reliance Consumer Products (RCPL), RRVL’s fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) arm, has recently been aggressively building its presence in the segment, launching a slew of products ranging from beverages under the iconic brand Campa to home and personal care items. Sodhi is not the only industry veteran who has joined Reliance. T Krishnakumar, the former chairman of Coca-Cola India, had previously joined the conglomerate. According to the sources, Sodhi’s expertise in the dairy space may be leveraged at some point to launch products in the dairy and value-added dairy segments.

Sodhi retired from GCMMF in January after nearly 41 years of service. The move appears to cement Reliance’s broader goal of expanding its FMCG footprint and may pave the way for it to compete with Amul and Mother Dairy.
