Zoho, a well known SaaS firm, has planned to expand into eastern Uttar Pradesh this year, Sridhar Vembu, the company’s co-founder and CEO, announced.
Vembu took to his X (formerly Twitter) account and said, “We are going into Eastern UP this year, our first significant rural action in the North. I wish we could have a meaningful presence everywhere and may be over the next 20 years we will get there. That is my dream.”

Compared to growing manufacturing facilities, scaling up research and development (R&D) teams has its limitations, Vembu said, adding that Zoho aims to build state-of-the-art R&D facilities wherever it operates.

Vembu also informed that Zoho’s business in Kerala, which houses an AI and robotics-focused industrial park and an R&D hub, has been successful and is anticipated to generate 1,000 new jobs.

Last year Zoho signed up more than 100 million users for its 55 business programs. Vembu believes high-end technology companies in rural areas can significantly reduce the migration of young talent seeking opportunities abroad.
Zoho began its journey of rural expansion in 2011 with the establishment of a rural office in Tenkasi, Tamil Nadu. Starting with ten employees, the company now boasts around 900 professionals.
