YouTube has introduced a tool that uses AI to dub videos into multiple languages. Announced last year, this feature is now live, aiming to make content more accessible and help creators reach a global audience.

Understanding YouTube’s AI Dubbing Tool

YouTube, owned by Google, hosts videos in many languages. While subtitles help, they don’t always allow viewers to fully engage with content in a language they don’t speak. To address this, YouTube has launched an automatic dubbing feature. Developed by Aloud, a part of Google’s Area 120, this tool automatically translates and dubs videos into different languages.

Creators can now make their content available to more people without additional effort. The tool enables viewers to watch videos in their preferred language, opening up opportunities for wider engagement.

How It Works

When a creator uploads a video, YouTube’s AI processes it and creates dubbed versions in various languages. For example, an English video can be dubbed in Hindi, French, or Japanese, while videos in other languages can be dubbed into English. While the AI tries to mimic the tone and style of the original speaker, the results may vary as the technology improves.

Currently, this feature is available to creators in the YouTube Partner Programme who produce educational or knowledge-based content. Creators can review the AI-generated dubs in YouTube Studio and decide whether to keep or remove them.

Checking AI-Dubbed Videos

Viewers can identify AI-dubbed videos by clicking the gear icon and selecting the “Audio Track” option. If the video supports multiple languages, they will see the available options listed there.
