President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Sriram Krishnan as Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Krishnan, an entrepreneur and former partner at Andreessen Horowitz, will focus on maintaining US leadership in AI innovation and shaping its role in industries and digital infrastructure.
Krishnan has experience in social media, venture capital, and AI advocacy. He will collaborate with David Sacks, Trump’s crypto and AI advisor. Krishnan’s views on decentralisation, AI ethics, and data-sharing practices, previously shared in public comments, are expected to influence the development of AI policies.

Trump announced the appointment on X, stating that Krishnan will work with Sacks and the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology to coordinate AI policy and strengthen American leadership in the field. David Sacks welcomed the appointment, recalling their collaboration during the Twitter transition.

AI Policies and Strategic Implications
Krishnan’s appointment comes at a time when businesses are adapting to generative AI, regulatory frameworks, and ethical challenges. His views, outlined in a New York Times op-ed, suggest rethinking how platforms interact with AI models. He has proposed new mechanisms for platforms to exchange value with AI systems, criticising current practices for hindering innovation and fairness in data usage.
Krishnan’s approach aligns with Trump’s focus on re-establishing US dominance in emerging technologies. The policies he helps craft may impact sectors like technology, media, and manufacturing as they integrate AI into operations.

Advocacy for Decentralisation
Krishnan has advocated for decentralisation in technology, viewing it as a way to empower users and reduce reliance on centralised platforms. In his op-ed, he highlighted how AI-driven platforms like Reddit and Stack Overflow have responded to exploitation by AI systems such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT by limiting access. He described these actions as “raising digital drawbridges,” signalling a shift in the relationship between platforms and AI.
Krishnan’s work in the administration is expected to address these challenges while shaping policies to strengthen the US position in AI innovation.
