Tech Mahindra has announced a new multimodal large language model (LLM) aimed at revolutionising telecom network operations by driving automation and enhancing efficiency. Built on Meta’s Llama 3.1 8B Instruct framework, the model is developed in collaboration with NVIDIA AI Enterprise software and AWS cloud infrastructure. The company announced the launch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, highlighting its commitment to leveraging AI for the next generation of telecom services.

The newly introduced AI model is designed to facilitate the transition of traditional telecom networks into fully autonomous systems (L4 and beyond). Tech Mahindra has integrated the latest advancements in generative AI (GenAI) and agentic AI, enabling the model to analyse large volumes of structured and unstructured network data. This will empower telecom operators with proactive issue detection, autonomous resolution, and improved service quality. According to Manish Mangal, CTO of Tech Mahindra’s telecom business, the collaboration with NVIDIA and AWS is focused on enhancing security, automating network management, and driving operational efficiency, ultimately reducing costs and making networks more agile and resilient.

During the initial phase, the LLM will enhance telecom operations by introducing AI-powered network observability and an automated resolution system. The model will autonomously detect and address network anomalies, minimizing human intervention and optimizing service restoration. The solution architecture comprises three critical components: efficient network data ingestion, AI-enhanced data curation and model customisation, and AI-driven automated issue resolution. NVIDIA’s vice president of telco business development, Chris Penrose, emphasized that Tech Mahindra’s model, based on NVIDIA AI Enterprise, establishes the groundwork for AI-driven telecom networks, setting the stage for autonomous operations.

Tech Mahindra noted that this initiative aligns with its broader strategy of deploying multimodal AI models across various business applications, extending beyond telecom. The announcement follows Jio Platforms’ recent partnership with AMD, Nokia, and Cisco to develop an open-source AI platform for telecom operators, integrating automation at every level of network operations. Meanwhile, Zoho is also making strides in AI innovation by developing an Indic language-focused LLM for regional applications. With AI and automation shaping the future of telecommunications, Tech Mahindra’s latest offering marks a significant step towards intelligent and self-sustaining network management.
