Apple introduced iOS 18.2 today, featuring ChatGPT integrations across Siri, Writing Tools, and Visual Intelligence. The live stream, which is also a part of OpenAI’s “12 days of OpenAI” year-end festival, demonstrated how these integrations work.
Siri is now able to identify when a question is out of its scope to answer and recommends using ChatGPT instead. In such cases, it asks if you want to process the query through ChatGPT. Before sending any request, Siri displays a message asking for user permission, ensuring full control over how queries are handled.

Visual Intelligence, available as a new feature on the iPhone 16 series, can be accessed by tapping the Camera Control button. Users can open the camera, point it at an object, and either search the web using Google or use ChatGPT for additional insights, translations, or text summaries.

Writing Tools now includes a “Compose” feature, through which users can create text from scratch with ChatGPT and even generate images with the help of DALL-E.
These features follow ChatGPT’s daily usage limits, similar to the free version of the model. The ChatGPT integration is optional and can be managed in Settings.
