Salesforce is set to acquire data management giant Informatica in a deal valued at around $8 billion in equity, marking another bold step in its AI-driven growth strategy.

Announced via a press release on May 27, the agreement outlines that holders of Informatica’s Class A and Class B-1 shares will receive $25 in cash per share. The market responded swiftly, with Informatica’s stock jumping from $18.81 on May 23 to $23.83 by late morning on May 27.

This acquisition builds on Salesforce’s previous high-profile deals, including its $27.7 billion purchase of Slack in 2021, Tableau in 2019, and MuleSoft in 2018. It reinforces the company’s commitment to building a powerful data and AI ecosystem.

Salesforce CTO Steve Fisher emphasised the importance of comprehensive data understanding for AI effectiveness. “By integrating Informatica’s metadata and cataloguing strengths with our Agentforce platform, we’re enabling AI agents to fully comprehend data – from source to quality – to drive smarter automation,” he said.

Robin Washington, Salesforce’s President, CFO, and COO, noted the strategic nature of the deal. “Our approach to acquisitions is intentional and focused. Informatica is a transformative asset that will accelerate our AI strategy across key sectors like healthcare, finance, and government,” she stated.

This move further cements Salesforce’s position as a leader in enterprise AI, with Informatica’s tools poised to enhance data visibility, governance, and intelligence across its ecosystem.
