Reliance Industries Ltd. has teamed up with Digital Realty, Brookfield Infrastructure, and Brookfield Asset Management to invest in special purpose vehicles (SPVs) for the construction of data centers in India, Reliance will be an equal partner in the partnership, the company claims, because it will own 33.33 percent of each SPV. Depending on regulatory approvals, the acquisition is anticipated to be finished in around three months. The sum invested by Reliance in Mercury Holdings, the partnership between Brookfield and Digital Realty, is 3.78 billion ($46 million).
In Chennai and Mumbai, the joint venture between Digital Realty Trust and Brookfield Infrastructure is constructing data centers. The first undertaking, known as MAA10, calls for the construction of a 100 MW campus-based 20 MW greenfield data center in Chennai. The JV has also purchased 2.15 acres of land in Mumbai for the development of a 40 MW data center.

The data centers would be positioned strategically to guarantee smooth communication with necessary terrestrial infrastructure and underwater cables, emerging as key hubs for global connectivity for Indian businesses and gateways into India for multinational corporations. The joint venture aims to meet the cloud and colocation needs of regional and international organizations, including startups and small and medium-sized businesses. As these organizations increasingly move their resources to the cloud and off-premise, this will successfully meet their needs, according to the press release.

“The partnership will help us serve our enterprise and SMB clients with cutting-edge, plug-and-play solutions delivered from the cloud and lead their digital transformation and make them more competitive and efficient,” said Kiran Thomas, CEO of Jio Platforms Limited. “High-definition live content, AR/VR experiences, cloud gaming, immersive shopping, and cloud PC are just a few of the innovative and distinctive consumer and home experiences that we are providing and developing further.”
