Reliance and NVIDIA to Build World’s Largest Data Centre in Jamnagar By Elets News Network - 24 January 2025

Reliance - Nvidia collaboration

Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani, plans to set up the world’s largest data centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. According to reports, this move is part of Reliance’s entry into the artificial intelligence (AI) sector.

The company has sourced AI semiconductors from Nvidia. This follows an announcement at the Nvidia AI Summit in October 2024, where Reliance and Nvidia shared their plan to work together on AI infrastructure. Nvidia will supply Blackwell AI processors for a one-gigawatt data centre planned by Reliance.

At the summit, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that India should manufacture its own AI. “You should not export data to import intelligence. India should not export flour to import bread,” he said.

Mukesh Ambani added that intelligence should be used to improve the lives of people and bring equality. He also stated that after US and China, India has the best digital connectivity infrastructure.

In September 2024, Reliance Industries and Nvidia partnered to develop AI supercomputers and large language models (LLMs) to support India’s multiple languages. This collaboration shows Reliance’s focus on using AI for India’s needs. Nvidia has also partnered with the Tata Group, showing its involvement in AI development in India.

The Indian government has announced over ₹10,000 crore funding for AI startups, projects, and LLM development. However, challenges remain. The country does not yet have local semiconductor production facilities. Building such facilities requires significant investment, time, and a skilled workforce, which is still developing in India.
