Razorpay has launched India’s first payment gateway powered by an official Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. This new server bridges the gap between payment systems and AI platforms, enabling users to embed transaction functionalities directly within AI-powered tools like chatbots, applications, and autonomous agents.
Shashank Kumar, Razorpay’s founder, emphasised the simplicity and speed this brings to everyday transactions. To access this feature, users must install the Razorpay MCP server and set up an MCP-compatible client such as Claude Desktop, VS Code, or Cursor. Once configured, this setup allows AI assistants to carry out real-time payment actions seamlessly.

Developers can access the full integration guide on GitHub, making the setup process straightforward. This launch reflects Razorpay’s commitment to transforming the digital payment landscape through faster, smarter, AI-integrated solutions.

MCP, developed by Anthropic, is an open standard designed to let AI systems interact with external tools and data in a structured, consistent manner. It empowers large language models (LLMs) to perform live tasks, like API calls, database queries, or file reading, making AI more functional and connected than ever, much like how a USB-C port connects various devices effortlessly.
