Perplexity The NVIDIA and Jeff Besos-backed AI startup aims to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Apple’s Siri, and Amazon’s Alexa.

The assistant can handle tasks like booking dinner reservations, arranging rides through apps, and setting reminders. It is accessible in 15 languages via Google’s Play Store. The company expressed interest in expanding to iOS if Apple grants the necessary permissions.

Last week, OpenAI introduced a similar feature called Tasks for ChatGPT Team and Pro subscribers on its web platform. Meanwhile, Apple and Amazon are also upgrading their AI capabilities. Apple recently integrated Apple Intelligence into Siri and partnered with OpenAI to add ChatGPT functionalities. Amazon plans to release a new version of Alexa, with its CEO Andy Jassy suggesting a launch in the “coming months.”

Perplexity AI, founded in August 2022, is a conversational search engine that provides direct answers to user queries supported by source citations. It was founded by Aravind Srinivas, a former OpenAI researcher, Andy Kowinski, who was a member of the founding team of Databricks, Denis Yarats, a former AI research scientist at Meta, and Johnny Ho, who was a quantitative trader on Wall Street.
