Panasonic Avionics has launched its first facility in India with a new software design and development centre in Pune. The centre, inaugurated by the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, will support the development of In-flight Engagement and Connectivity (IFEC) solutions.
Initially, the centre will employ 200 engineers who will be dedicated to enhancing Panasonic Avionics’ software development capabilities, speeding up the delivery of next-generation IFEC and digital solutions. Over time, the facility will expand as demands increase from airlines, the company informed.

Ken Sain, CEO of Panasonic Avionics Corporation, credited India’s large pool of skilled engineers and a fast-growing aviation sector as the reasons to open a facility in the nation. He said, “India is a natural location for us to invest in for the future of our business, and we look forward to accelerating our software innovation and design capabilities from our new Pune facility.”

The Pune facility will support airlines in achieving their digital engagement goals with IFEC solutions designed to reduce lifecycle costs. It will also focus on developing, testing, and sustaining software for both narrow and widebody aircraft, including the X Series in-flight entertainment system.
The new plant was designed using a “build-operate-transfer” (BOT) operation model and started in 2021, according to the company.
Manish Sharma, Chairman of Panasonic Life Solutions India and South Asia, highlighted that Panasonic’s investment in innovation and global capability centres in India will cater to multiple markets and airlines with advanced IFEC solutions.
Currently, more than 300 airlines worldwide use Panasonic Avionics’ in-flight engagement, satellite Wi-Fi connectivity, and digital services. The company is also partnering with universities across India, including those in Maharashtra, to nurture engineering talent and support the growth of the new facility.
