OpenAI appointed Indian-origin executive Arvind KC as Chief People Officer, tapping a veteran technology leader to oversee hiring, organizational development, and employee systems as the artificial intelligence company scales operations amid intensifying competition for talent.

KC brings over 25 years of experience blending engineering expertise with people leadership across major technology companies including Roblox, Google, Palantir Technologies, and Meta. He will report to Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon, filling a position vacant since Julia Villagra’s departure in August 2025 after serving less than six months.

The appointment arrives as OpenAI pursues a funding round expected to exceed $100 billion valuation while taking steps toward a public offering. KC’s role extends beyond traditional HR functions to help model how AI transforms workplace operations, including role evolution, skills development, and employee reskilling as AI tools integrate into daily workflows.

Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, emphasized the company’s scaling approach should reflect the future it’s building, noting KC will ensure people processes match OpenAI’s ambitions while preserving foundational culture and operating principles.

KC holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Maharashtra’s University Institute of Chemical Technology and an MBA from Santa Clara University. His career spans semiconductor supply chain systems, engineering leadership at Google, CIO and Head of People Operations at Palantir, and most recently Chief People and Systems Officer at Roblox.

Arvind joins growing Indian-origin leadership at OpenAI including Vijaye Raji, CTO for Applications, and Vice President Srinivas Narayanan. He emphasized the moment requires rethinking how work happens, teams develop, and organizations adapt as tools evolve.
