OpenAI has launched ChatGPT-Gov, a secure government-exclusive version of its chatbot, aimed at enhancing efficiency and decision-making in U.S. agencies. The move comes just as China unveils DeepSeek AI, intensifying the global race to integrate artificial intelligence into public administration.
Backed by Microsoft, ChatGPT-Gov provides U.S. agencies with access to OpenAI’s advanced language models while ensuring high-level security and compliance. It allows government institutions to self-host on Microsoft’s Azure Government cloud and manage sensitive data with frameworks like FedRAMP High, IL5, CJIS, and ITAR. Unlike standard ChatGPT versions, this model is designed for policy analysis, public sector automation, and secure data management.
