OpenAI, in collaboration with the IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and IT, has launched OpenAI Academy India, marking the platform’s first expansion outside the United States. This strategic partnership aims to build nationwide AI capabilities across sectors, offering targeted training to students, developers, educators, civil servants, nonprofit leaders, and entrepreneurs.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed to formalise this collaboration. The initiative will support the FutureSkills pillar of the IndiaAI Mission by delivering training content both online and in person, initially in English and Hindi, with other regional languages to follow.

OpenAI will integrate its learning modules with both the FutureSkills and iGOT Karmayogi platforms to aid skill development and public service training. As part of the rollout, OpenAI will host webinars and hands-on workshops across six Indian cities. In a strong push for startup innovation, up to 50 ventures or fellows approved by IndiaAI will receive API credits worth $100,000 collectively.

Additionally, hackathons will take place in seven states, reaching around 25,000 students, with top winners earning a chance to attend OpenAI’s global DevDay. A landmark goal of the initiative is to train one million educators in the use of generative AI, helping them adapt and innovate with evolving technologies.

OpenAI Academy India will offer free access to a wide range of educational resources, including videos, tutorials, interactive modules, and community-driven learning—signalling a major leap in AI skill development across the country.
