NVIDIA Buys Israeli AI Startup Run:AI for $700 Million, Plans to Make it Open Source By Elets News Network - 02 January 2025

Nvidia

NVIDIA has finished buying Run:ai, an AI startup from Israel. Run:ai makes software that helps AI hardware work better. NVIDIA will now make this software open source. This means anyone can use it, even on hardware not made by NVIDIA. Run:ai plans to grow its team and share its software with more people. By making it open source, the company wants more users to optimise AI hardware.

NVIDIA is a leader in the AI hardware market. Its chips for data centres sell the most. NVIDIA makes tens of billions of dollars each quarter. This deal adds more tools to its hardware and software solutions. Run:ai has worked with NVIDIA since 2020. It was started in 2018 by Omri Geller and Ronen Dar. The company focuses on making AI hardware work better. Now, it will be part of NVIDIA’s ecosystem.

NVIDIA has not shared the deal’s details. Although financial details were not officially disclosed, an Israeli publication earlier reported the acquisition’s value at $700 million. This is NVIDIA’s second significant investment in Israel, following its $7 billion acquisition of Mellanox Technologies in 2020.

By bringing Run:ai into its fold, NVIDIA will be able to enhance its offerings while contributing to the global AI community through open-source solutions. Additionally, by making Run:ai’s software open source, NVIDIA will provide tools for improving AI computing efficiency to a wider audience. Developers and organisations using non-NVIDIA hardware can also benefit from these solutions. This move will help improve AI performance and make it more available to many users.
