Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has announced a planned investment of ₹10 lakh crore over the next seven years to develop large-scale artificial intelligence infrastructure and accelerate what he described as India’s transition into an “intelligence era.”
Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Ambani said the investment will focus on long-term, nation-building capacity rather than short-term gains. He noted that the biggest global constraint in AI is not talent but access to affordable computing power, which India must address through domestic capability.
As part of the initiative, Reliance Industries and Jio will build multi-gigawatt AI-ready data centres in Jamnagar, with more than 120 MW expected to become operational in the second half of 2026 and expansion planned toward gigawatt-scale capacity. The infrastructure will be supported by surplus renewable energy — up to 10 GW — sourced from projects in Kutch and Andhra Pradesh, alongside a nationwide edge-computing network integrated with Jio’s telecom systems.
Ambani said the objective is to create sovereign AI capacity so that India does not have to rely on external compute resources. He emphasised reducing the cost of AI access in the same way data prices were lowered during India’s digital expansion, aiming to make intelligence as widespread as connectivity.
The initiative, branded as “Jio Intelligence,” will focus on improving productivity across sectors, enabling multilingual AI in Indian languages, strengthening data security, and generating new high-skill employment opportunities.

Industry observers view the announcement as one of the largest private-sector commitments to AI infrastructure globally, aligned with India’s broader push to build domestic technological capability and digital resilience.
