Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to artificial intelligence (AI) investments, dismissing concerns over recent market fluctuations triggered by DeepSeek’s advancements. Despite Nvidia’s stock plunging by nearly 20% on Monday due to fears that DeepSeek’s AI models could reduce GPU demand, Mark Zuckerberg assured investors during Meta’s earnings call on Wednesday that the company’s AI strategy remains unchanged.

Meta has allocated approximately $60 billion for AI infrastructure in 2025, primarily to upgrade and build data centers supporting its AI-powered services. Addressing concerns about DeepSeek’s impact, he emphasized that Meta sees AI as a critical advantage, given its massive global user base. He noted that while DeepSeek is an emerging competitor, it is too soon to determine its effect on GPU demand, adding that GPUs remain essential for AI-driven data processing.

As part of its AI expansion, Meta is advancing the development of Llama 4, its next-generation AI model designed to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Llama 4 is expected to feature agent capabilities and multimodal abilities, enabling it to process multiple types of inputs and operate more independently. Mark highlighted that Llama 4 is progressing well, with pre-training completed for its mini model and promising results from its reasoning and larger models. Meta aims to strengthen its leadership in open-source AI, building on the foundation set by Llama 3.

However, he also suggested that AI’s growing capabilities could lead to significant job disruptions, particularly among mid-level software developers. He predicted that by 2025, AI-generated code could largely replace human engineers at Meta and other tech companies. This shift could substantially cut costs, as mid-level software engineers at Meta currently earn salaries in the mid-six figures.

Alongside its AI infrastructure and model development, Meta is also scaling Meta AI, its AI-powered assistant, with an ambitious goal of reaching one billion users by the end of 2025. The company is focusing on AI personalization, ensuring users have AI models tailored to their preferences, personality, and cultural background. He believes that Meta’s emphasis on personalized AI experiences will set it apart from competitors and solidify its position in the AI landscape.
