Meta launches Llama 4 AI Suite By Elets News Network - 07 April 2025

Llama 4 AI

In a significant leap toward AI supremacy, Meta has rolled out the first models of its latest open-source AI suite, Llama 4, signaling a bold stride in the generative AI race.

On Saturday, Meta introduced three models under the Llama 4 banner: Llama 4 Maverick, Llama 4 Scout, and the Llama 4 Behemoth. While only Maverick and Scout are currently accessible, anticipation is high for the Behemoth model, which is expected to deliver even more powerful capabilities.

The launch of Llama 4 is being perceived as a strategic move to challenge AI giants, especially Google’s Gemini and Mistral, with Meta positioning its models as top contenders in the evolving AI landscape.

Adding a layer of friendly competition, Google CEO Sundar Pichai took to X (formerly Twitter) to applaud the Llama 4 release.

“Never a dull day in the AI world! Congrats to the Llama 4 team, Onwards!” he posted.

Ahmad Al-Dale, Meta’s head of generative AI, responded playfully:

“Thanks Sundar! We don’t like dull days here thanks!”

This isn’t the first time Pichai has shown goodwill to rivals — he previously congratulated Elon Musk on the debut of Grok-3, the next-gen chatbot from xAI.

Inside the Llama 4 Models

  • Llama 4 Maverick: Outperforms Gemini 2.0 Flash across multiple benchmarks, including coding, multilingual processing, logical reasoning, long-context handling, and image comprehension.
  • Llama 4 Scout: Designed for lightweight efficiency, it beats models like Gemini 2.0 Flash Lite and Gemma 3.
  • Llama 4 Behemoth: Yet to launch, but expected to bring breakthrough performance in advanced AI tasks.

These models are multimodal, accepting both text and image inputs, and produce text-based responses. They support 12 global languages, expanding their utility across industries and geographies.

The Llama 4 models are the backbone of Meta AI, the company’s virtual assistant now integrated across WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and Meta’s web platform, enhancing user interactions with contextual, intelligent assistance.

In an Instagram video, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasized the company’s commitment to open-source innovation:

“Our goal is to build the world’s leading AI, open source it, and make it universally accessible. I’ve said for a while that open-source AI will lead the way — and with Llama 4, we’re seeing it begin to happen.”
