Meta Enters Superintelligence Race with ‘Muse Spark’ AI Model By cioNetworks - 09 April 2026

Meta has officially stepped into the global race for artificial superintelligence with the launch of its new AI model, Muse Spark, marking a major strategic shift in its artificial intelligence ambitions.

Developed by Meta’s newly formed Meta Superintelligence Labs, Muse Spark is the first model from the division and represents the company’s most significant AI release in over a year. The launch comes after Meta invested billions of dollars in infrastructure, talent acquisition, and a sweeping overhaul of its AI ecosystem to compete with industry leaders like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic.

Muse Spark will initially power the Meta AI assistant across the Meta AI app and website, with plans for deeper integration into platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger in the coming weeks.

The model introduces advanced capabilities, including multimodal processing (text and images), complex reasoning across domains like science and healthcare, and a unique “contemplating mode” that enables multiple AI agents to work together for improved responses.

Meta positions Muse Spark as the foundation of a broader family of AI models aimed at building personalised superintelligence—systems that can go beyond answering queries to performing tasks, making recommendations, and assisting users in real-world scenarios.

Despite strong performance in reasoning and multimodal tasks, the model still lags behind competitors in areas such as coding and abstract reasoning, highlighting that Meta is still catching up in the AI race.

The launch follows Meta’s earlier struggles with its Llama 4 models and signals a reset in its AI strategy—from open-source experimentation to more product-focused, integrated AI systems.

With Muse Spark, Meta is betting on its massive user ecosystem and distribution advantage to accelerate adoption, positioning itself once again as a serious contender in the race toward next-generation AI systems.
