Larsen & Toubro, Engineering and construction conglomerate’s power division has received an order from the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited for up to Rs 2,500 crore, on Wednesday.
The company did not disclose the contract values but claimed that according to its classification of contracts, the orders fit into the “significant” category, which is worth between Rs 1,000 and Rs 2,500 crore.

According to the company’s regulatory filing, the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) order relates to the installation of wet Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) systems for its Thermal Power Plant at Sagardighi in the state of West Bengal. This will be L&T’s first FGD project from a state-owned power utility.

The installation of FGD systems in existing and new thermal power plants has been made essential by the Government of India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change in order to reduce SO2 emissions, according to the filing.
L&T is positioned to construct FGD projects for thermal plants totaling more than 19 GW with this order, actively contributing to the government’s initiative to reduce SO2 emissions, it noted.
