IBM said that it will pay 2.13 billion euros ($2.33 billion) to Software AG for its business technology platforms to improve its hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) products. The platforms from Software AG, StreamSets and webMethods, will be acquired by IBM with its cash on hand.

Both businesses claim that the integration of StreamSets will enable IBM’s WatsonX AI and data platform to receive data. However, for their hybrid multi-cloud settings, webMethods will provide additional integration and API management tools to IBM’s clients and partners.

Rob Thomas, Senior Vice President of Software and IBM’s Chief Commercial Officer said that “the combination of WatsonX, StreamSets, and webMethods will enable clients to fully unlock the potential of their applications and data. He also emphasized that this powerful combination will drive innovation and prepare businesses for AI, regardless of where their applications or data are located.”

One of the most cutting-edge and complete application and data integration platforms in the market is anticipated to be made available to IBM’s partners and clients following the acquisition.

Majority-owned by the private equity fund Silver Lake, Software AG employs more than 5,000 people in more than 70 countries and brings in over €950 million (US$1.04 billion) in sales annually. Its technology is essential for linking sensors, devices, and machines, optimizing workflows, and integrating apps, devices, data, and clouds.

Application and data integration solutions are becoming more and more crucial for application modernization and efficient AI deployment across the company as businesses strive to speed up their digital transformations. Leaders in data integration, API administration, and application integration are StreamSets and webMethods.

The more than two decades of cooperation between IBM and Software AG are strengthened by this impending transaction. It is anticipated that StreamSets and webMethods will enhance IBM’s present line of business, which consists of Red Hat, WatsonX, IT automation solutions, and IBM Consulting.

Sanjay Brahmawar, Chief Executive Officer of Software AG, said that IBM is the perfect fit for webMethods and StreamSets. He stated that with IBM’s global scale and focus on hybrid cloud and AI, their employees will have a great opportunity to develop while assisting enterprises worldwide in maximizing the value of their applications and data.
