Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has announced its intent to acquire cloud security startup Wiz for $32 billion in an all-cash transaction. This acquisition marks one of Google’s most significant deals, surpassing its $12.5 billion purchase of Motorola in 2011.
With Wiz under its umbrella, Google Cloud aims to enhance its cybersecurity offerings, enabling businesses to automate and scale their security operations more efficiently. Despite the acquisition, Wiz’s services will continue to be available across all major cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. The transaction is expected to be finalized by 2026, pending regulatory approvals.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, emphasized the growing need for advanced security solutions as businesses and governments migrate to the cloud. “Google has always prioritised security, and with this acquisition, we are reinforcing our commitment to providing robust and scalable cybersecurity solutions to our customers,” he said in a company statement.

Wiz, founded in January 2020 by Assaf Rappaport, Yinon Costica, Roy Reznik, and Ami Luttwak, Wiz has rapidly grown into a leading cloud security provider. The company’s platform scans cloud environments to detect vulnerabilities, helping organizations fortify their infrastructure against cyber threats.

By November 2024, Wiz had approximately 1,995 employees, with its sales and marketing operations spanning North America and Europe, while its engineering team remained based in Tel Aviv, Israel.
Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport described the deal as a major milestone, stating, “This acquisition is not just transformative for us but for our customers and partners as well. With Google’s deep AI expertise and extensive resources, we will further our mission to strengthen cloud security and proactively prevent breaches.”
The integration of Wiz into Google Cloud is expected to:
- Lower security management costs for businesses
- Enhance protection against AI-driven cyber threats
- Streamline security operations across multiple cloud platforms
As cloud adoption accelerates, this strategic acquisition positions Google Cloud as a key player in shaping the future of cybersecurity.
