In a significant development, the Asia/Pacific healthcare sector (excluding Japan) is on the brink of a major transformation, thanks to the emergence of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI). According to a recent IDC report, GenAI is expected to liberate up to 10% of clinicians’ time, leading to a staggering annual saving of around USD 100 billion in healthcare costs by 2025.
The driving force behind this change is the integration of GenAI in streamlining workflows and enhancing operational efficiency. By the close of 2027, it is anticipated that healthcare organisations within the region will have doubled their investment in GenAI, a clear indicator of the technology’s growing influence.

This uptick in investment is primarily fueled by the rising demand for highly personalised patient care, better collaborative efforts in healthcare, and a strong commitment to achieving equity in healthcare services. GenAI is rapidly becoming a pivotal tool in the healthcare arsenal, enhancing the efficiency of healthcare workers and bringing a new level of personalisation to patient care.

Beyond just time and financial savings, GenAI is set to play a vital role in improving the accuracy, speed, and efficiency of diagnostics. The adoption of AI solutions in care provision is expected to soar by 60% by 2026, driven by the ongoing quest for superior patient care and more streamlined operational procedures.
Furthermore, the report projects that by 2027, half of the healthcare industry in the Asia/Pacific region will be utilising GenAI to tackle the challenges of data and workflow fragmentation across different care settings.

As the healthcare landscape evolves, GenAI is reshaping not just traditional care models but is also spurring a shift towards more patient-focused approaches. By 2026, the number of patients receiving hospital-level care at home is expected to double, fuelling a 55% increase in investment in technology-enabled integrated care initiatives.
