Databricks Acquires Two Startups to Strengthen AI-Driven Security Offering By cioNetworks - 25 March 2026

DataBricks

Data and AI company Databricks has acquired two startups—Antimatter and SiftD.ai—to support the launch of its new AI-powered security product, Lakewatch. The move highlights the company’s growing focus on integrating AI into enterprise security and data platforms.

The newly introduced Lakewatch platform is designed to perform Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) functions such as threat detection and investigation. What sets it apart is the use of AI agents powered by Anthropic’s Claude, enabling more intelligent and automated security analysis.

To build this capability, Databricks acquired Antimatter, a startup specialising in secure data control systems, and SiftD.ai, a young company focused on collaborative AI tools similar to interactive notebooks. While Antimatter brings data protection and governance capabilities, SiftD.ai contributes agent-human collaboration tools, enhancing the overall platform.

The financial terms of both acquisitions were not disclosed. However, Antimatter had previously raised funding, while SiftD.ai was an early-stage startup with a small team—indicating that the deal likely includes both technology acquisition and talent integration.

Employees from both startups have joined Databricks, with Antimatter founder Andrew Krioukov now leading the Lakewatch initiative.

The acquisitions come shortly after Databricks secured a massive funding round, signalling its intent to expand aggressively in AI and enterprise infrastructure. With Lakewatch, the company is positioning itself at the intersection of data platforms, AI agents, and cybersecurity, a rapidly emerging space in enterprise technology.
