BAM Digital Realty, the joint venture between Brookfield Infrastructure and Digital Realty, appointed CB Velayuthan as their new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The company’s inaugural 20 MW Greenfield data center, MAA10, situated on a 100 MW campus in Chennai, is well on track for its anticipated launch by the end of this year. In June, the joint venture disclosed the acquisition of a 2.15-acre plot of land in Chandivali, Mumbai, marking the beginning of the construction of their second data center in India.

With a substantial investment exceeding ₹2000 crore (approximately $250 million), the facility will ultimately provide 35 megawatts (MW) of IT load upon completion, significantly augmenting the company’s planned capacity in India to 135 MW.

Furthermore, in July, BAM Digital Realty unveiled a significant development: Reliance Industries’ inclusion as an equal partner, forming a three-way joint venture. This transaction, currently pending regulatory approval, is poised to operate under the banner “Digital Connexion: A Brookfield, Jio, and Digital Realty Company” upon finalization. CB Velayuthan will serve as the CEO of this joint venture, steering the platform’s growth and delivering value to the Indian market on behalf of the three stakeholders.

CB Velayuthan comes to BAM Digital Realty from Equinix, where he served as the Global Managing Director of Strategic Alliances, successfully overseeing partnerships. His prior roles include leading Global Sales for Nokia, driving substantial revenue growth. During his tenure at Nokia, he also established a partner business unit and played a pivotal role in establishing nationwide telecommunications networks for key operators in the Indian market.

Given the rising adoption of technologies such as hybrid IT and artificial intelligence, alongside the government’s “Digital India” initiative, there is a growing need for a global, full-spectrum digital infrastructure provider capable of meeting the capacity and connectivity demands of cloud service providers, hyperscalers, and enterprise customers in India and worldwide.

Arpit Agrawal, Head of Infrastructure for India and the Middle East at Brookfield, expressed excitement about Velayuthan’s appointment, emphasizing the strategic importance of serving the dynamic data center market in India. Velayuthan, upon his appointment, conveyed his enthusiasm and commitment to building upon the strong foundation established by BAM Digital Realty and addressing the evolving technology needs of clients.

Velayuthan holds an MBA in Global Business from the Helsinki School of Economics and an undergraduate degree from Bharathiyar University, India. He will be headquartered in Mumbai, India.
