AI company Anthropic has announced the launch of Claude Fable 5, its first publicly available Mythos-class AI model, marking a major advancement in the company’s frontier AI capabilities. The release introduces a safer version of the powerful Mythos architecture while maintaining strong performance in software engineering, analytics, reasoning, and knowledge-intensive tasks.

According to Anthropic, Claude Fable 5 is built on the same core architecture as Claude Mythos 5 but includes additional safeguards designed to prevent misuse in high-risk areas such as cybersecurity, biology, and chemistry. When users submit requests related to sensitive domains, the system can automatically route those queries to the less capable but safer Claude Opus 4.8 model.

The company described Fable 5 as its most capable AI model released for general use to date. Anthropic said the model delivers significant improvements in handling complex, long-running tasks, software development workflows, and advanced reasoning challenges.

Alongside the public release, Anthropic also unveiled Claude Mythos 5, a less restricted version that will initially be available only to select organizations through its Project Glasswing initiative. The program focuses on trusted partners working on cybersecurity and critical infrastructure security.

Anthropic stated that extensive internal testing, red-teaming, and safety evaluations were conducted before the launch. The company believes the safeguards embedded in Fable 5 make it suitable for broader deployment while still allowing users to access many of the capabilities that made the Mythos model notable.

The launch underscores the growing focus across the AI industry on balancing powerful model capabilities with safety measures, as companies race to develop increasingly advanced generative AI systems.
