From Theory to Transformation: Quantum Science Takes Centre Stage in 2025 By cioNetworks - 23 July 2025

World AI Summit

2025 is shaping up to be an important year for science and technology. UNESCO has declared it the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, drawing attention to how quantum science is gradually beginning to impact the way we process information and tackle some of the world’s most complex challenges.

Quantum technology used to be something only scientists in labs worked on. But now, it’s becoming a part of everyday life. It’s helping make healthcare more precise, securing our digital lives, improving weather forecasts, and even making artificial intelligence smarter and faster. While still in its early stages, this technology holds real promise for the future.

Many countries are investing heavily in quantum computing and related technologies, and with its proactive policies and initiatives, India has a unique opportunity to take a leadership role and make significant contributions to this rapidly evolving field..

As Bengaluru prepares to welcome the World AI Summit 2025, get ready to dive into exclusive conversations about how Quantum, AI, and DeepTech are coming together to unlock a new frontier of innovation, creating a better, smarter world for everyone.

Why Is Quantum Important Now?

Quantum science isn’t just a theory anymore. It’s becoming a powerful tool to solve real-world problems.

In 2023, India took a major step forward by launching the ambitious National Quantum Mission with an investment of ₹6,000 crore. This mission focuses on developing homegrown quantum technologies, including quantum computers, sensors, and secure communication systems. It aims to drive innovation, strengthen national security, and boost growth across various industries, positioning India as a global leader in this field.

As part of this pan-India initiative, four Thematic Hubs (T-Hubs) have been established, consisting of 14 Technical Groups spread across 17 states and 2 Union Territories, ensuring a broad and collaborative approach to quantum research and development.

Thematic Research Hubs

  • IIT Madras — Quantum Computing and Materials
  • IISER Pune — Quantum Communication and Sensing
  • IISc Bengaluru — Quantum Algorithms and Applications
  • SN Bose Institute, Kolkata — Quantum Technologies and Devices

Globally, the quantum computing market is expected to surge from around $1 billion in 2023 to $6.5 billion by 2030 (MarketsandMarkets, 2024), highlighting the rapid growth and importance of this technology on the world stage.
