Homegrown conversational AI company CoRover.ai has made three of its BharatGPT models available on AIKosh, the government-backed National AI Datasets and Models Platform run under the IndiaAI Mission. The listing covers BharatGPT Mini, BharatGPT Instruct and the ASR Hindi Conformer speech model, spanning multilingual language processing, text generation, reasoning and Hindi speech recognition.
According to the company, the models went live on the platform after a review, testing and approval process carried out by IndiaAI and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The move puts a set of Indian-built language and speech models in a national repository that developers, startups, researchers and government departments can draw on.
Three models, three different jobs
BharatGPT Mini is a compact, 538-million-parameter foundational language model that CoRover says it trained from scratch. It supports Indic languages and is built to run across on-premises servers, the cloud, edge devices and hybrid setups, an important consideration for public-sector and regulated users who need to keep data close. CoRover claims the model outperforms models more than 15 times its size, although it has not detailed the benchmarks behind that comparison.
BharatGPT Instruct uses a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture and is designed for instruction-following and conversational use cases, including text generation, coding, reasoning and enterprise tasks across both Indic and global languages.
The third model, ASR Hindi Conformer, converts spoken Hindi into text. CoRover reports a Word Error Rate of 24.72% and a Character Error Rate of 21.78% on the AI4Bharat Lahaja Hindi test set, results it describes as competitive with larger speech recognition systems such as AI4Bharat’s 600M-parameter multilingual Indic Conformer.
Why AIKosh matters for India’s sovereign AI push
AIKosh is designed to give Indian builders a single place to find datasets, models and tools for developing AI applications, lowering the cost and effort of getting started with locally relevant AI. Listings that pass IndiaAI and MeitY review add a layer of assurance for institutions evaluating which models to adopt.
“The availability of our BharatGPT models on AIKosh marks an important step in making Indian-developed AI capabilities accessible through a national platform,” said Ankush Sabharwal, Founder and CEO of CoRover.ai.
For CoRover, best known for conversational assistants used in high-volume public services, the listing extends the reach of its BharatGPT family beyond its own enterprise deployments. For the wider ecosystem, it is another sign that India’s AI strategy is leaning on smaller, efficient, multilingual models that can run where Indian users and data actually are, rather than relying only on large global systems.
As more home-grown models arrive on AIKosh, the real test will be adoption: whether developers and departments pick them up for production-grade Indic language and voice applications at scale.
